Welcome to Nicaragua!

Just wanted to let everyone know that I made it safe and sound to Managua, Nicaragua! We have already gone through a day of training and will continue here for two more days before heading to Esteli. I woke up this morning and had no clue where I was, it was quite startling. Anyway this post is going to be short as I have to head to my language interview so PC can assess what my skill level is currently. The interview is set to last twenty minutes and I will be amazed if I know more then five minutes of Spanish. Hope all is well in the states and I will be able to check my email fairly consistently for the next 2 days while I am in Managua.

Quick note... My brother pointed out that I had my email address incorrect in the last post. I have since corrected it but just in case the correct email is jhollins@gmail.com.

ok - let's start again -

James - We are happy and relieved to hear you made it to Nicaragua! We are missing you already. It's hard to imagine you are so far away from us. I'm getting emotional :( Dad and I got spoiled having you so close to home and able to come home frequently for weekend! I'm just hoping your father doesn't make me go to the dirt track races in your place!! He knows how much I like those :(

Sounds like things are progressing well. Curious to know what you found as unanticipated when you were in your meetings? Always know you can always come home if this didn't work out for you. I know you know that. I'll miss our weekends by our pool sipping great wine and lots of conversation. There will be many more of those times to come I'm sure. We just have to wait 27 months!!!

All kidding aside - we love you James and want you to find whatever it is you are searching for in this life. One has to be happy. You will certainly come back home with wonderful memories and stories to share. Please, oh please don't buy anymore blow guns!! :) Kiss all the children for me and I hope they will come to know just how special you are.

Stay in touch with us via your blog. I'm excited to hear about all your adventures. I just can't even begin to imagine what your new life will be like.

I love you James. I'll save a very special wine for your return.

James -

What hotel are you staying at in Managua? Just the write ups on Google sound pretty depressing as far as a city, gangs and crime. Hopefully, the three days will go by quickly. Be careful!

James,

We hope you have a wonderful time and experience!! Please remember you always have a home and place with us. If things don't work out, you can be Kayla's nanny!! Kayla is still your "little girl" and phone number getter!!

Best wishes on your new journey of many in your life!!

Love Always,
Craig, Jacque, Kyle, Jenna and Kayla and don't forget OREO

Hi James,
I'm so glad you made it to Nicaragua safely. So, did the Spanish tapes help when you were quizzed? I'm sure you're in the highest Spanish level, maybe you're an instructor!!! You should be living with your host family now. They will treasure the time with you, as I know you will. They will be your "family" away from home, and I know they will take good care of you!!! Love, Mom

Hi James -

Anxiously waiting to hear all is well from good ole Hurricane Felix. Hopefully, you were west of the storm in Esteli correct? Unfortunately, the Peace Corp posted nothing on their website with regard to the conditions in Nicaragua with the Peace Corp Volunteers. I'm sure it will be a while before we hear from you - just know we were all thinking about you and wondering how you faired through the hurricane. Jacob, Bryan, Grandma H and Grandpa, Grandma Burnett, Karen and lots of folks at Agdata all wishing you well through the storm.

Love, Sonn & Dad
