A Typical Day in Nicaragua?

So I got a couple responses asking what a typical day is. Well the easiest answer is there is no typical day down here. But there are some common occurences so I will try to give you what I look forward to each day.

A typical Monday through Friday...

Wake up at 630am...yeah I know everyone is laughing here but the days are completely different here and for some reason I cant sleep much past 630, maybe its the going to bed at 830pm that helps.

I start off my day with a trip to the latrine and follow it up with a cold bucket shower I talked about last blog. They have not improved at all, I am tempted to break out my solar shower to have nice warm showers however I dont want to be that rich american coming to visit so I have not broke out the solar shower, computer nor camera(s).

I then usually have breakfast waiting for me around 715 where I eat and talk to my Nica Mom and and baby sister. The conversations are starting to get better as I learn more spanish. Today we talked about jobs, both here and in the US, and yesterday we talked about dating and marriages in Nicaragua.

Then I head to spanish class from 800 am until 1200. I have spanish class with 3 other aspirantes (not a volunteer during the first 3 months)

Sorry but I have to run...out of internet.

Next time I will talk about after lunch and also the weekends...

Hi James,
Yes, Aunt Jacque is right about the hot, steamy, shower!!! Just think, you will be so accustomed to bathing with the cold bucket of water that you be asking for a bucket at home. Kayla can get you your own "special" bucket. Your "Illinois" family can't wait to see you!!! If you thought Aunt Jacque spoiled you before, just wait until you come back!!! She's already planning your favorite meal. Remember the corn casserole, spaghetti casserole, bananna cream pie, and your "favorite" beverage. Aunt Jacque and I love the idea of you being "set up." What do you do in Nicaragua for a date? Aunt Jacque and I are emailing back and forth to let the other one know when you have a new blog!!! Have you noticed we're the first ones to write you on your blog!!! That's because we miss you so much. Kayla, Jenna, Kyle, Rylee, Jordan, Aunt Jacque, Aunt Jan, Uncle Craig, Uncle Jim (almost), Grandma, and me are sending you a big hug!!! I love you all the way to the moon!!! (Yes, that's the mom part of me, I can't help it!!!) Have a wonderful day and I can't wait to hear more about your adventures in Nicaragua!!! Love, Mom

Hey James -

Dean Smith was inducted into the Hall of Fame last night. Thought you'd like to hear that. The NFL and college football is in full swing now. Madden and Michaels are now on Sunday nights. ESPN has taken over Monday night football. Just not the same on Monday nights without Madden and Michaels. ESPN now has 2 games on Monday night. This last Monday the game started at 7:30 and then one again at 10:30 or so. Just seemed different. We'll keep you informed on Carolina football and let you know how their new coach is doing.

Stay in touch!

James -

Knowing how much you like the Jets, listen to this. The Patriots were fined yesterday, $750K do to video taping the Jet's defensive coordinator's hand signals. Apparently, they were caught doing it back in Nov against Green Bay also. Makes you wonder if they really WON the SUPER BOWL on their own merit 3 years standing. Apparently, they caught one of the Patriots cameramen at the JETS game which brought the entire issue to a head. Billichek was fined $500K out of the $750K.

On the radio this morning they said the Panthers are considering moving their practice field because it is overlooked by skycrapers. Doesn't it make you wonder just what the world is coming to sometimes? You have a great weekend!
